State Process in Montana

• • 1. Visit the TransAction Portal (TAP).
  • 2. Once you are there, you can apply for or manage a new medical marijuana card by scrolling down to the section that pertains to Cannabis Control Cards.

  • 3. Click the “Apply for a Medical Marijuana Card” link under the Medical Marijuana Registry section.
  • 4. It should now be possible for you to select the type of application. You can choose either an Adult Application or a Minor Application. By clicking “Next,” you will be taken to the next process step.
  • 5. Make sure to key in all the required fields in the Cardholder Application. Besides the data fields required, there is also a section where you can upload documents and answer questions.
    • Verify the address of the patient and physician by clicking “Address needs to be verified.”
  • 6. You’ll need to pay $20 for the state application.
    • You can do so via credit, debit, or ACH. Cash, checks, or money orders can also be mailed or delivered.

  • The temporary card generated when you submit your application will be available to print from the submission confirmation screen. Please note that this card cannot be accessed digitally and must be printed.
  • A maximum period of 60 days is set as the temporary expiration date of the temporary card. Suppose your cardholder registry identification card arrives by mail within ten (10) business days of receiving approval for the Cardholder Application. In that case, the expiration date of the identification card will change to ten (10) business days from the date of approval.
  • Whenever you need to get your temporary card, you can retrieve your application through the following link if you’d like to download and print it at a later time. A retrieval code and your email address will be needed to access your account.
